Don’t Let Outdated Materials Cost Your Child Opportunities

Today, we’re joined by Jenn Boyce, creator of The Hollywood Prep and a trusted guide for families navigating the entertainment industry, as she shares why a simple “spring reset” can make all the difference in your child’s opportunities.

Hey Parents!

Spring is a natural reset — and it’s the perfect time to make sure your child isn’t missing opportunities because of outdated materials.

This happens more often than you’d think. Parents assume everything is “fine,” but behind the scenes, Casting is scrolling past profiles that don’t reflect who the child is today.

Not because the child isn’t talented.

But because the materials don’t match the moment.

Here’s where to start your Spring Reset:

✅ Make sure their headshots still look like them.

Kids grow fast. Haircuts change. Faces mature. If Casting can’t immediately recognize your child from their photo, they’ll move on. Your child deserves materials that represent who they are right now.

✅ Update their casting profiles.

Check Actors Access, Casting Networks, and anywhere your child is listed. Are their sizes correct? Is their hair length accurate? Do their clips reflect their current skill level? These small updates matter more than you realize.

✅ Refresh their resume.

Add new training, recent bookings, or special skills. Even small steps forward show growth. Casting and Agents want to see momentum.

✅ Check in on their training.

Training builds confidence, skill, and readiness. The kids who are consistently working are the ones who are consistently prepared.

✅ Take an honest look at where they are now.

Your child today is not the same child they were a year ago — and that’s a good thing. Their materials should grow with them.

Here’s the truth most parents don’t realize:

Opportunities often come down to preparation. When Casting is moving fast, they don’t have time to imagine potential. They choose the child who already looks ready.

This isn’t about pressure. It’s about protection.

Making sure your child’s materials reflect who they are today protects the opportunities waiting for them tomorrow.

Spring is your chance to reset, refresh, and move forward with confidence.
