Be the “Can-Do” Parent Your Agent Loves

Hey Parents!

Last month we talked about protecting your child, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and letting your Agent or Manager help you navigate those situations. So this month, I want to talk about the other side of that relationship:

How do you become the parent your Agent absolutely LOVES working with?

After 30 years as a Talent Agent, I can tell you there was one kind of parent every Agent wanted on their roster:

The Can-Do Parent.

You know the parent I’m talking about. When their name popped up on my phone, I knew we were going to figure it out.Not because they said yes to everything and not because they never had questions or problems. They were simply solution-oriented and agents LOVE that.

✅ Respond quickly.
When an audition comes in, don’t leave your Agent hanging. Confirm it, ask your questions, and get moving. Sometimes Casting is waiting for an answer, and your Agent is waiting on you.

✅ Bring solutions, not just problems.
Can’t make the audition time? Don’t just say, “We can’t do it.” Try, “We can’t make 3:00, but we can absolutely do anytime after 4:30. Would that work?”

That tiny difference is HUGE.

You’re helping your Agent go back to Casting with a solution instead of a no.

✅ Keep your child’s business in order.
Headshots current? Resume updated? Work permit valid? Coogan Account ready? Casting profiles accurate?

Your Agent shouldn’t have to chase you for the basic things your child needs to work.

✅ Don’t make everything an emergency.
Things happen. Auditions come in last minute. Schedules change. Casting changes instructions. Welcome to Hollywood. 😂

Take a minute, read everything carefully, and then reach out if you genuinely need help.

Your Agent is absolutely there to help you—but not every hiccup needs to become a crisis.

✅ Know when “no” really does need to be the answer.
Being Can-Do does not mean putting your child’s well-being second.

If something isn’t safe, appropriate, or right for your child, speak up. Remember what I told you last month:

Call your Agent and let us be the bad guy!

A good Agent would much rather help navigate a legitimate concern than have you agree to something that isn’t right for your child.

✅ Remember: you’re a team.
Your Agent wants your child to work. Trust me—we don’t make a dime until they do! 😂

So try not to approach every conversation as parent vs. Agent.

It’s:

Parent + Actor + Agent = Team.

We all want the same thing: a happy, healthy child building a successful career.

And here’s something parents may not realize:

Your reputation matters too.

Casting remembers the parent who is easy to communicate with. Production remembers the family who shows up prepared. Agents remember the parent who finds solutions instead of creating more problems.

And yes… that can make a difference when opportunities come around.

Being a Can-Do Parent isn’t about saying yes to everything.

It’s about giving everyone a reason to say:

“We love working with that family.”

That’s the reputation you want.

Because in this business…

Work gets work. Relationships build careers.

And sometimes the parent behind the young actor plays a much bigger role in both than they realize.
