Are You Making Your Agent’s Job Easier… or Harder?
Hey Parents! This month’s Ask an Agent question might surprise you a little:
Are you making your Agent’s job easier—or harder?
I ask this with love, because most parents don’t realize how much their actions behind the scenes can either help—or unintentionally hurt—their child’s momentum.
Here’s the truth: your Agent wants your child to work. They don’t get paid unless your child books. They are submitting, pitching, and advocating every day. But their job becomes much easier when you show up as a true partner in the process.
Here’s what that looks like:
✅ Keep your child’s materials current.
If your child looks different than their headshot, has grown, changed hair, or developed new skills—your Agent needs updated materials. Agents can only submit what they have. If the materials aren’t accurate, opportunities get missed.
✅ Respond quickly and professionally.
When your Agent reaches out about an audition, avail check, or request, timing matters. Casting moves fast. Being responsive shows professionalism and helps your Agent confidently put your child forward.
✅ Be a “can-do” parent.
Agents love working with parents who are solution-oriented, calm, and ready to make things happen. This doesn’t mean saying yes to everything—but it does mean being prepared, flexible, and supportive. When your Agent knows they can count on you, they feel more confident submitting your child for opportunities.
✅ Keep your profiles updated.
Make sure Actors Access, Casting Networks, and other platforms reflect your child today. Correct sizes, current photos, and up-to-date clips make your Agent’s job smoother—and your child more competitive.
✅ Trust the process.
Your Agent is working behind the scenes more than you’ll ever see. Submissions, pitches, conversations with Casting—it’s happening. Constantly questioning or pressuring your rep doesn’t speed things up. Preparation and patience do.
✅ Be someone they can count on.
Agents love working with families who are prepared, respectful, and easy to communicate with. When your Agent trusts that you’re ready, organized, and professional, they can advocate for your child with confidence.
Here’s what I want you to remember most:
This is a partnership.
When you make your Agent’s job easier, they can focus on what they do best—opening doors, creating opportunities, and helping your child grow.
You’re on the same team.
