DON’TS for Auditioning!
Nickole Doro has seen so many wonderful families come through auditions, which also helped her notice a few things that can make the process smoother for everyone involved. Think of this list as a set of friendly reminders to help auditions stay positive and stress-free for you, your child, and everyone else in the room.
Don’t stress about being a few minutes late, but please avoid being very late without notice. Life happens! If you’re running behind, just give your Agent or the Casting office a quick call. We’re usually able to reschedule or adjust if we know what’s going on.
Don’t push your child into roles they aren’t comfortable with. If the role doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to pass. We’d rather have honesty up front than put your child in a situation where they feel unhappy or pressured later.
Don’t hover or eavesdrop at the door. If your child is auditioning, we promise they’re in good hands. Waiting quietly until you’re called in helps keep the room focused and distraction-free.
Don’t forget that kindness matters. The waiting room is part of the audition too! A positive, supportive attitude goes a long way and it’s noticed. Negative behavior or trying to intimidate others doesn’t leave a good impression.
Don’t ask for “do-overs” unless requested. If we want to see it again, we’ll ask. Sometimes your child nails it on the first try, and that’s all we need! Trust the process and keep moving forward with confidence.
Don’t make your child wait uncomfortably. If they need the restroom or a quick break, please take care of it. You won’t lose your spot, and your child will come in feeling calm and ready.
Don’t forget to tidy up shared spaces. We know hair, snacks, and touch-ups are part of the process, but please leave restrooms and waiting areas clean for the next family. It shows respect for the space and for others.
Don’t place adult pressures on your child. Acting should be about joy and creativity, not financial pressure. Remind your child auditions are about learning and fun, they’ll shine brightest when they’re relaxed and enjoying themselves.
Auditions are just one step along a much bigger journey. Each experience, whether it leads to a role or not, offers children the chance to grow, build confidence, and explore their creativity. When the process stays respectful, supportive, and focused on the joy of performing, everyone benefits, and the audition room becomes a place where kids can truly shine.
