Why the Entertainment Industry is a Marathon -NOT a Sprint

In today’s Industry Pro Series, Nelson Paredez-Parks discusses how putting your child or teen performer in the entertainment industry can be exciting, but if you're in it for quick wins, you're setting them up for burnout. A smart, long-term strategy is the best way to support a healthy, lasting career. Here’s why:

1. Skills and Character Matter More Than Credits

Acting is more than landing roles—it’s about professionalism, discipline, and growth. A strong foundation of training and mindset will keep your child working long after the hype fades.

2. Consistency Beats Hype

Quick fame is often fleeting. What lasts are relationships, reliability, and a reputation for being easy to work with. These things are built over time through consistent effort, not viral moments.

3. Timing is Everything

Success doesn’t have to happen by age 10. Many great careers start in the late teens or adulthood. Pushing too hard, too early can lead to emotional and creative exhaustion. Let your child grow into their career, not be rushed through it.

Final Thought:

Keep it fun and if your child/teen truly loves the craft, nurture that love with patience and perspective. Focus on building a foundation they can stand on for years. A long-term plan isn’t just wise—it’s what gives them the best shot at real, sustainable success.
